Presented by Colby Reade, Director of Communications Murdock Trust
The humble owner of an electronics repair shop in Southeast Portland would go on to co-build the largest employer in the state of Oregon and turn a $90 million estate into more than $1.2 billion in investments in the community. Using the example of Jack Murdock, co-founder of Tektronix, and the M.J. Creating a more inclusive Planned Giving profession through network building
Moderator: Andrea Grosso, WPGC Vice President
Featuring: Dr. Raymond Tymas- Jones, President Cornish College of the Arts
Training Facilitator: Dr. Jen O’Ryan, Organizational change Diversity and Inclusion Strategist
This session is for those who want to learn how to be an effective mentor/mentee across different levels of expertise, personal backgrounds, and experiences.
Planned Giving is often a skill learned on the job, with coaching from a colleague or others in the planned giving community. Advancement opportunities and the ability to ‘‘phone a friend” with questions are benefits of a well-developed personal network. For many, time is all it takes to become part of the planned giving circles.
WPGC’s goal is to provide technical professional development and networking opportunities to strengthen the profession by increasing diversity at all levels. Mentoring and networking opportunities will help open access to new faces in the planned giving community. We will also be announcing the changes we are making to our mentoring program, including adjustments to the program’s structure, and increasing direct active outreach to nonprofit organizations. The planned giving community is full of life-long learners who love to share knowledge. Our mentoring program will become a more informal partnership between people who can learn from each other.
