Preparing for 2022: Four Tax-savvy Strategies to Inspire Donors (and Clients) to Step up Charitable Giving Plans

More details to As 2021 draws to a close, it’s a great time to consider ways we can inspire our clients/donors to give more in the coming year. The tumult created by the pandemic and resilient investment portfolios have shifted charitable giving priorities for many. While tax savings aren’t the primary driver in making a charitable gift, let’s continue educating our clients and donors about giving in a tax-advantaged way.

We’ll review four strategies (with a few new developments) that could inspire greater gifts with tax incentives in 2022: qualified charitable distributions, bunching multi-year gifts into one year using a donor advised fund, gifting appreciated securities and naming charities as beneficiaries of an IRA.

Lisa is a lead advisor/principal of Private Ocean Wealth Management, an independent wealth management firm with offices in Seattle and the Bay area. She holds the Certified Financial Planner designation, is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and a Certified Advisor in Philanthropy.

Lisa has spent her 30-year career guiding individuals and families in meeting their important goals and making sure their financial and philanthropic plans are in alignment with personal priorities and aspirations. She was also an early pioneer in educating the legal community about the financial impact of divorce and in advocating the use of financial expertise during the divorce process to help create equitable financial outcomes.

Lisa has served on the local board of the Financial Planning Association and volunteered for the Seattle Times Financial Hotline. She has weighed in on financial topics for the Washington State Bar News, Elle magazine, the Wall Street Journal, KIRO and KSER radio, and Q13-Fox News. She is involved with the Washington Women’s Foundation and a local orchestra group which brings music to underserved communities.

The program will be approximately 30 minutes, leaving time for Q&A, followed by the WPGC Annual Membership Meeting.
